Our founder shared her bridal experience with Vogue wedding editor Lauren Burvill. In the months leading up to her wedding, like many other brides she became stressed and anxious which played havoc on her sleep and impacted her weight.
She shared her tips on the importance of looking after your health, both physically and mentally in the lead up to the big day.
It’s a common trope for couples to find planning a wedding stressful. Buying dinner for all of your friends and family, plus the added pressure of wedding traditions, can do that to a person. Burnout is already on the rise – factor in months of “wedmin” and budget juggling, and the risk of your health suffering in the run up to your all-important day is high.
“Ultimately your physical and mental health is more important than stressing over colour schemes or seating plans,” says Hannah Holt, the founder of wellness workshop company Equanimity, and herself a recent bride. “Making time for yourself, keeping a routine and not letting wedding admin consume you is so important.”
It may sound like a cliché, but stress is inevitable when planning a wedding. Even if you consider yourself less bridezilla, more ‘bridechilla’, family, friends and general unforeseen circumstances have a way of bringing the drama to an event that we're socially pressured into believing must be perfect. With little to no control over potential wedding woes that could crop up, it’s more important to focus on how to deal with the stress the milestone occasion will inevitably entail. According to Holt, this means making a conscious effort to be mindful and positive. “Keep reminding yourself that whatever happens, it will be a wonderful day filled with love.”
While many of the below healthy habits are good to adopt at any stage in life, experts recommend really focusing on them in the lead up to your wedding.
Prioritise your sleep
Not only will this help you look radiant on the day, sleep is also crucial to support our mental and physical wellbeing. Our founder really struggled with sleep in the lead up to her big day. She used meditation, magnesium salt baths, CBD spray and hot milk as her remedies to support her sleep. Check out our blog on sleep for further tips.
Don't worry it will all come together
Firstly worrying serves no purpose, you are creating a situation in your head that hasn't even happened yet! Breathe, focus on what will go right not wrong and when it all comes down to it, your family and friends are there for you so lean on them for support, everyone wants to be part of your day if they can.
Make time for you
Keep up your routine, don't put off going to a yoga class for the sake of wedding admin, designate time to work through your to-do list with your partner at set times so it doesn't consume you. Make the most of time when you are together, a car journey to work on your wedding playlist is a great way to get that box ticked and fun too!
Breathe
One thing our founder forgot on her big day was to stop and breath, especially as she walked down the aisle. The moment you stop and take a conscious breath not only will you reduce you stress levels but it brings you to the present moment so you can take everything in throughout the day.
Meditate
If this is not already part of your daily routine we recommend you make it so, it will lower your stress levels, keep your focus, help calm your over active mind, it will also keep you present so you can enjoy the preparation too, it is one of the most exciting times of your life and yes it can be overwhelming at times but take a moment to enjoy the build up too.
Treat yourself or be treated
One of the best gifts our founder received from her girlfriend was an appointment a Face Gym
weeks of sleep deprivation reflected on her face so the day before her wedding Face Gym performed what felt like a miracle and she was glowing on the day. If you have been sleeping like a baby, take yourself for a massage or get your nails done with your bridesmaids, its a time to feel pampered and helps you relax and feel good.
